For the purpose I have, this burner is great! I have a "modern" range with glass top. Unfortunately, the eyes cycle on/off and this makes it impossible to use for making jams or for canning where you DON'T want the temperature to go off and on. I am also wary of putting a heavy pressure cooker directly on what looks like to me is a pretty fragile surface. So after having jams that would not set properly, I decided I had to do something else. Buying a whole new range was not an option, so I bought two different single burners to see if one of those would work. Well, one did. This one. The less expensive one. It cost me $11.99 and with Prime was shipped free. Best of all, the electric coil got hot enough to allow pressure to build up in my pressure cooker and I was able to adjust it downwards a bit to keep the pressure even. I was very happy with this aspect. I have not made jam yet, so I don't know about that, but it does work for canning. This unit is not huge and it is not the best construction, so I would advise using it with care and making sure whatever pan you put on it is balanced well. The cord is short also, so this makes it a little difficult to use. I do not think this burner would be good for everyday use and it will require careful handling, but it gets hot and stays hot and I am glad to have a burner that will do this! At the price, when it wears out, I will order another one.

Works great and you know I'd buy one again I needed it for this tiny little apartment I was living in and did everything I wanted to do and it's still running I've had it for about 5 years I think.

My range runs on propane and to conserve fuel I use this as an extra burner. I keep it sitting on one of the back burners. It heats up fast and is a great adjunct.

As we waited for the water to boil, we started to get a little nervous. At one point, we accidentally spilled some sauce on the burner, which caused it to start smoking and set off the fire alarm. It was a bit embarrassing, but we couldn't help but laugh at the ridiculousness of the situation. We found that the burner was also great for making breakfast foods like eggs and pancakes. It heats up quickly and stays hot, so we were able to cook our meals without any issues. We even experimented with making stir-fry, which turned out surprisingly well. Of course, we had to be careful not to overload the burner, but we were able to make a tasty meal nonetheless. One thing we did notice was that the burner can get quite hot, so it's important to be careful when handling it. We accidentally touched the side of the burner while it was on, and it was definitely hot enough to cause a burn. But as long as you use it with caution and common sense, it's a safe and effective cooking tool. The only reason we didn't give this electric burner a full 5 stars is that it does have a few limitations. For one, it's not very powerful, so it can take longer to cook certain foods. We found that it works best for small meals or for heating up leftovers, but it might not be the best option if you're cooking for a large group of people. Another limitation is that it doesn't have temperature control. There's only one heat setting, so you can't adjust the temperature based on what you're cooking. This can be a bit frustrating if you're trying to cook something that requires precise temperature control, like candy or other confections. That being said, for the price point, the IMUSA USA GAU-80305 Electric Single Burner is a great value. It's affordable, lightweight, and easy to use, making it a great choice for college students, campers, or anyone who needs a portable cooking solution. Plus, it provided us with plenty of laughs and memories during our semester of cooking adventures. In the end, we give the IMUSA USA GAU-80305 Electric Single Burner a solid 4 out of 5 stars. It's not perfect - it can be a bit finicky at times, and it's not ideal for cooking large meals - but it's a great solution for small spaces and temporary situations like ours. Plus, it provided us with some much-needed entertainment during an otherwise stressful time.

I ordered this product because my Proctor-Silex 34101 Fifth Burner that I purchased this time last year went on the blink ... it would turn on with a jiggle but then when a pot was put on it ... it would shut off ... this made me hesitant to order another of this brand as it didn't hold up very well. Although I was skeptical of ordering the IMUSA as it is not a brand I am familiar with, it has turned out to be quite a good find. At first glance I was thrown by the short cord but after reading the manual and it's explanation of why it is short I actually appreciate that they did this as I had tripped over the long cord once on the Proctor-Silex (which never happened again thank god!) From the moment of turning this instrument on I have been more than pleased. It heats up quickly and has "high/med/low" clearly marked (unlike the Proctor-Silex) and actually seems to be those temperatures (unlike the Proctor-Silex) and it cost less than the Proctor-Silex. I am very happy and do not often give 5 stars to anything but you guys have won me over thus far! ~Joy

It worked for about two hours and then just died - no red light / no heat. Meanwhile my other similar sized cheap electric burner I bought from Menards over ten years ago is still going strong after years of abuse….sigh! Update - I loosened the single nut on the bottom and opened it up to discover that the 142 degree celsius (287.6 F) thermal fuse was blown. I bought a ten pack for about $6 and replaced it and it started working again. The application I am using it for is not outrageous - I need it to boil a large 10 quart pot of liquid sitting on top of a concrete step at the back of my garage in about 50 degree weather. Point being - the concrete and cool ambient temps will easily dissipate any excessive heat build up. On medium it stayed working for an hour but wouldn’t boil it so I turned it up to max and it quickly blew the fuse again. My guess is that they are either choosing the lower temp rating for fire safety risk or the position of the fuse being tucked next to the side is the cause for it being useless for my application. At least I confirmed the fix for anyone who wants to repair it themselves….
