It works wwll.
Got for emergencies mostly, because we always have extra vegetable oil around, although I might use it during meditation too. It's nice enough.Had to return two other inexpensive oil lamps in this price range because they didn't work at all. This one has been burning a cotton puja wick for over 2.5hours with standard grocery store vegetable oil. It has burned about 1/2 of the wick in that time. The wick requires manual adjustment. You'll figure it out, just push it up from the stem. The ones I returned had a knob-wheel gizmo on the side to turn the wick like what is found in a hurricane lamp.I suspect that is the reason they didn't work, because in order to turn the wick it has to grip it and squeeze the cotton string so much that it squeezes out or cuts off the supply of oil.I've done the research and tried out 3 different styles: when buying a vegetable oil lamp, simple ones like this or the Aladdin's lamp style are really the only way to go unless you want to spend $25 to $45 for an olive oil mason jar kitIt's not a work of art, don't think it is solid brass, but it's well made, works well and should last a lifetime.I suspect twine or a natural fiber, thin rope or thick yarn would work as a wick as well as the pre cut puja ones I bought, which are similar to cotton ball material. (So a cotton ball stretched thin then twisted into a rope like shape would also likely work.)I hope this helps.

Works well and is very pretty (more so than picture).
Very nice product. It has two teeny imperfections that is barely noticeable (I mention it because other reviewer commented on) and does not really take away from the overall product's appeal. It's shiny brass and very sturdy; does not leak any oil (it was a question I had before purchasing because I'm not familiar with these products) nor can it because of the way it is designed.I got a regular cotton candle wick spool #24 wick size which I can fold in two (bigger flame) or leave singular (smaller flame) and have had no issues; lights well, burns well. The opening for wick is much bigger if I would want to bump up wick size for any reason. I use regular vegetable oil--Crisco to be exact. No oil smell.I'm very pleased with product because I wanted something unique that looks pretty and works well.Thank you to seller for a very nice product at a nice cost.

Non-refundable, wick burns down level with the holder & will not pull out.
I have not used a lamp like this before, but am handy with mechanical things, fixing things, etc. This lamp will Not Work for me because the wick burns down even with the wick holder in just a few minutes, and you cannot pull it up to continue burning it. I used ghee and just to check, olive oil.Neither worked without burning to ash on top of the little hollow wick stand.I make my own candles so I have various wicks I tried including the primitive 'DIY out of cotton' ones.I could not get a refund on this, it doesn't have the one month return feature most Amazon items have, and when I followed Amazon's advice and emailed the seller, I never heard a thing. I received a message on Amazon's site asking if I had received satisfaction from the seller. I answered 'No'...that's it. nada, zip. Do not recommend.

Heavy and balanced
This is on my altar with a tea light in it until my ghee wicks arrive. Nice heavy brass, well balanced. A bit roughly finished, because India.
