but i take me hat off to Cheap Trick for this album which i do like very much
Does what it says on the tin , no way could the Beatles do this live & personally i'll always side with them, but i take me hat off to Cheap Trick for this album which i do like very much . i reckon they've done a good respectful job on this giving it their full effort. If you're not blinkered and you like the original I think you'll enjoy having this in you're collection,It arrived early and well packaged, peace & love from Jonty.

Wonderfully Magnificent. Sgt Pepper Knew My Father.
In this day and age of doom and gloom and hung parliaments what breaks the spell and cycle is the wonderful discovery of a brilliant Cds worth of music. And this my dear friends is just that.I saw this advertised, love the music of Cheap Trick thanks to a freebie of their album Latest from Rock Magazine and took a chance. The magnificent Cheap Trick perform the tracks from Sgt Pepper's live with full orchestra and an small Indian one to boot extraAll the tracks are present and correct and it is wonderfully magnificent in their attack and delivery of it..The group are on the top of their form and the run through of this terrific album is treated with reverence and respect by all and sundry.Along with the Electric Light Orchestra I think Cheap Trick come close to sounding like the Fab Four would have had they been able to perform live. This performance is wonderful and the vocals terrific and the whole proceeds from this wonderful concert and CD release are being put to Prostate Cancer research. So if you buy this wonderful CD you are not only doing your ears, face and smile a favour you are helping eradicate this terrible disease.(On a heavier note It is a sad fact that every single male will contract this terrible affliction but the majority will die from other causes before they know it.)(So f you buy it give yourself a pat an the back for treating yourself to a great Cd and for helping the poor guys everywhere who succumb to this terrible affliction)

Not quite the Fab Four
Its quite bizarre that Cheap Trick's recent albums are not properly released in the UK. After all, we were the foundation of power pop in the 60's with the Beatles, Badfinger, the Kinks, the Who and so on. Cheap Trick have always tried to emulate the Fabs' rockier side with varying degress of success (Live at the Budokan was a classic, of course), and should have been absolutely huge on this side of the pond. But as many excellent powerpop bands inexplicably seem to fail (Farrah, Jellyfish, Dwight Twilley, Brad Jones, Fountains of Wayne, Marshall Crenshaw should ALL BE HOUSEHOLD NAMES) Cheap Trick have resorted to recording their heroes' most famous album to try to gain some recognition or success (the live recording was actually a benefit gig). Its a very good attempt, and actually confirms what great musicians they are, and what an astonishing voice Robin Zander has always had. The album does veer perilously close to karaoke at times, but the sheer musicianship keeps the interest throughout. The band sealed an excellent overall album with a live version of the Abbey Road side 2 seque - and this works beautifully too (its maybe even better than the main album...).Any Cheap Trick, powerpop or Fabs fan should own this - but at these extortionate import prices - this is never gonna change the UK's view of Cheap Trick.

Pretty dull
Cheap Trick have done some great records in their time (I recommend LIVE AT BUDOKAN: THE COMPLETE CONCERT, their self-titled debut and DREAM POLICE as their best), but this album basically amounts to a flat recording of the Beatles famous record, with light distortion on the guitars and some crowd noise.I suspect the inputus for it's release was simply to allow American record buyers using iTunes to enjoy this classic record without having to buy the music from a non-American band. Call me cynical but in these jingoistic times it seems to make sense to me. Why else rerecord Sgt Pepper's?
