Great book for young singers
I've used this book numerous times with my elementary age voice classes and with my beginning voice students (middle school age) and have found it to be an excellent resource. This is a collection of classic songs from various folk traditions which children find fun to sing. The accompaniments are far more interesting than the usual fare and the recordings are well-produced. More importantly, the accompaniments provide the appropriate amount of melodic support for a beginning singer. Some are more difficult than others allowing for a good progression as the student learns to sing independently. I find the subject matter in the songs to be perfectly acceptable for children - as I said, these are songs from the folk tradition and a part of our heritage here in the USA. We've had some fascinating and valuable discussions in my classes based on the lyrics to some of the songs - 'Every Night When the Sun Goes In' comes to mind and its reference to Marbletown and 'On Mondays I Never Go to Work' is a big favorite and usually generates a fun discussion! Discussing and understanding the lyrics to a sad or even a controversial song is an important part of learning to be an informed and knowledgeable singer.

Voice students love this book!
Teachers, rejoice! Excellent arrangements of fabulous folk songs! Nowadays, some students are unfamiliar with these beautiful classic pieces. I have bought 4 of these books so far.

Arrived bent, but a wonderful collection of Folk Songs
Arrived bent in a padded envelop. The book itself is a great book. I am a voice teacher and the songs are in a medium range. Wonderful collection for any age. The bonus is the online tracks that you can transpose or change the speed. A+ book and an F for the Amazon packaging. Why don't they use cardboard

I like the selection of songs in this book
I like the selection of songs in this book. They are a nice complement to what I already use in my voice studio. I wish some of the songs were a little bit longer, but they are very appropriate for young children.

Mix of songs
Overall I like this anthology and use selections from it with my younger students (late elementary voice class and beginner middle school students). About half the songs are very nice pieces that my students enjoy singing. The other half I have found unusable. They include inappropriate subjects like not having parents, a cowboy who is about to die, and a drunk monkey...to name a few. I know these are old folk songs, but I am personally not comfortable giving these songs to young singers.

Excellent resource for young voice students
Wonderful collection of folksongs perfect for my voice students up to age 13. The accompaniments are very simple. The recorded accompaniments can be accessed online too, which I didn't even notice when I bought it- an extra bonus!
