Tolman Tool OPEN-CB Rebar Open Cutter-Bender

This is a heavy duty product. Arrived mounted and ready to go. It does a great job bending #5 rebar but it will not cut number 5. I thought I was maybe a little "weak" so I put one of my big young guys on it. He finally cut one piece after some trouble but nearly bent the handle in half. #4 was no problem. Plan on using a chop saw for cuts. Time will tell how it holds up, but 5 weeks outside right by the ocean and it still looks new and works great.

While we typically don't use this as a primary rebar cutter, it does cut perfectly fine. When assembling reinforcing rods for grade beams with stirrups, we cut our stirrup lengths with a cut off saw (100's at a time) We find it faster to precut the lengths with the saw and have someone else on the bender. Once you have your lengths set and make your bend marks on the wood base, you are off to the races. With a little practice you can bend 75 stirrups an hour. For smaller jobs he cutter works fine as well. This is a quality tool that should last many years and provide trouble free operation. Tip: If you regularly work with reinforcing rods and can justify the purchase of this tool, you should seriously consider the Wacker DF16 rebar tier.

It says it will do 180 degree bends. I tried to get 180 and the hole where the pipe went in for 90 degree bends hit the cutter arm. I had to grind the one side and fix the hole for the 90 degree cause I bent it in a little. Nice tool otherwise.

it is not good , dose not cut # 5 rebar, has hard time with # 4 it is miss-advertised.

The bender that we bought was the 1st open type. We had already purchased 2 of the closed cutter units. What I did not realize with the open type is that you are not suppose to cut grade 60 re-bar with it. After the purchase we read the instructions given with the unit and discovered this info, I am disappointed that this was not stated in the info given prior to purchase. Time will tell how long it will hold up, do to the fact that grade 60 re-bar is all we purchase.

The tool works fine, only problem is it showed up miss the most important bolt the one that pivots the cutting jaw. And the kicker is it came with no info on the manufacturer to correct it, and no easy to contact Amazon either. Long story short I had to fix it myself. Sucks dont it!
