Cher - Greatest Hits

Terrific Overview
Few artists, musical or otherwise, have staged as many comebacks as Cher, who seems to pop in and out of the musical radar about once a decade. Her most recent renaissance as a dance diva was fulfilled through her worldwide hit 'Believe',which is included here along with several other tracks from her otherwise underwhelming album of the same name. Besides the dance Cher we also get her corporate rock goddess incarnation that surfaced in the late '80s, thanks to such Diane Warren tracks as 'I Found Someone' and 'If I Could Turn Back Time'(back when Warren was recycling the same cliched ideas for only the hundredth time as opposed to now when she's doing it for the ten thousandth, and when Cher wasn't reigning in that annoying tremble in her voice). Also present are tracks from her commercially disappointing nineties' albums, including the superior UK version of her minor hit 'One By One'(though it would have been nice to see 'Save Up All Your Tears' here rather than the miserable 'Love Hurts'). Nevertheless, this is a great overview of Cher's music, and while she's never been accused of being a particularly astute song stylist, her vocal work has actually improved over the years, and the difference is obvious, particularly between her late '80s work and her BELIEVE singles. Overall, this is the best compilation of Cher's work to date, and supercedes the previous compilation IF I COULD TURN BACK TIME.

Cher Greatest Hits
Cher is one of the greatest singers I have ever heard. I started loving her music when she sang with Sonny Bono. She has only grown in ability and this CD is a testament to her ageless ability to touch people with her incredible voice and style. I bought this particular CD because although I am a fan of Marc Cohn's "Walking in Memphis", there is a magic about Cher's version (I'd love to hear Cher and Marc sing it as duet) that I can't get out of my head. Partly I think because the excellent "X-Files" episode she was in and had this song with the credits was a classic instantly. For whatever reason I was only able to find this song on this CD. That one song is worth the purchase, and the rest the CD is packed with some of her greatest songs and well worth owning. I highly recommend it.P.S. Not a big deal but the tracks don't match what the cover and CD indicate are the order they play.CA Luster
