The best clover for poor soils. Tall (2-3'), quick-growing clover. Sow in spring, summer or fall. Will grow in more acid soil (pH 5.0-6.0) than other clovers if lime is applied at seeding time. Widely grown biennial used for Nitrogen addition and hay crops. Large plant with big leaves makes it an ideal grazing crop. In addition to its uses for nitrogen fixation and as forage, the flowers of red clover may be used to garnish drinks, salads, soups, and desserts; the flavor is sweet and mild. Red clover may be the best choice for frost seeding; it is extremely cold hardy and does well in most soils and growing conditions. it does, like most clovers, perform poorly in hot weather unless seeded into a crop canopy. Incorporate fully for best results. Mammoth Red clover will fix up to 70 to110 lbs. nitrogen per acre. The long tap roots loosen soils and mine phosphorus and other nutrients from deep in the soil. It should be seeded with 1.5-2 bushels/acre of oats to "nurse" the clover. David's Garden Seeds is a Veteran owned business that has been offering quality seeds since 2009.

Rediculously priced, & be sure you order the amount of seed you intend. It's easy to confuse their listings for 1 oz & 1 lb.
(For benefit of the Amazon censor, the "specific features of the product" that bother me are 1) the rediculous price for one ounce of seed, and 2) The appearance of the listing which makes it easy to mistakenly order 1 ounce instead of 1 pound. Sorry Amazon, my initial review submission which you rejected, where I jokingly offered to buy and re-sell the seed for cheaper, I intended only to emphasize my points, not advertise anything. Seriously, readers had no way to contact me if they thought I was serious.) Now for the review: First, they sell one pound of seed for the same price as two ounces. And second, the listings for one ounce and one pound look virtually identical except for the weight and price, so it's very easy to order one ounce instead of a pound. So, I'll admit I made a mistake - I should have read the product description more carefully. It does give the weight in the heading. I read the listing for one pound as I was scanning the dozens of postings for red clover seed from other companies. I liked their price per pound and just clicked on the wrong item. But seriously, no one would buy just one ounce of red clover seed because it's used for green mulch in your vegetable garden. One ounce would barely cover a small raised planting bed. Even if someone wanted to mulch their window box, why does it cost so much? Certainly it costs more to sell seed in small quantities, but is 8 times the per pound price reasonable? I would give it 1 star, except it was parly my fault for speed reading Amazon.

Seems to be a good value
I bought this in June 2019 and forgot about it until moving in the fall of 2020. Threw it in an empty garden bed at my new house and it’s growing nicely as you can see from the pic. Impressed.

Good for a cover crop or green manure.
Seeds seem fine for cover crop planting. This seller has fine seeds.
