Q: Would this work for the audio-technica ath-m50x headphones?

It would work fine for your headphones. This amp has quite a bit of power for such a small amp. I'm using beyerdynanic 990 250 ohm mainly and still have room on volume knob to go higher. With the AT headphones, you wouldn't need much power at all since they are 32ohm speakers.

Q: Can the line/headphone out be connected to powered speaker?

Yes, but depending on your powered speakers it might sound distorted if you turn the volume up past halfway.

Q: What is the difference between a tube amp and a dac/amp combo?

A tube amplifier only amplifies an analog signal, say, from an iPhone headphone output. The DAC (digital analog converter) converts the original digital sound data to analog form which is then fed to the amp. You can get a DAC as a separate component from the amp or combined with the amp in one unit. You already have a DAC in your phone and PC, however, the DAC components are often of much better quality than one would find in a cell phone or PC DAC, giving you better sound quality.
