So nice I bought it twice
Had the first one of these like 5 years ago and we threw it out when we moved. Haven't had waffles in a couple of years, but we recently got the craving again and bought this again. Still just as good! Simple, effective, cheap. Great waffle maker

Works Great!
Before you buy this to replace your broken waffle maker, make sure there's power to the plug you are using. I still can't believe I threw out a perfectly good waffle maker to buy this because I thought the old one had failed! Yeah, the new one makes waffles fine. Don't remind me!

Basic Waffle Maker
If you want a simple no frills waffle maker at a comparable price, this is the one for you. Just wait until the light goes out, add batter and watch over the maker for a few minutes until it is done to your preference. This is a strictly manual process and will not turn off automatically, fortunately it does not take long to bake. The thing that disappointed me was the vertical storage feature. When one does this the lid falls open about 2 inches, so leaves the cooking surface open to dust. You may want to cover with a bag or try wrapping the ac cord to keep the unit closed when stored vertically. If aesthetics bother you any, another model may be in order. No clear coat was applied after the molded pieces were cut off the sprue, so those areas are visible as flat black areas in a glossy finish, emphasizing the labor cutting measures used in assembly. In all, I am happy with the price performance, do watch for a sale as I have seen the price go up by a third, and other reviewers have mentioned prices close to what I got it for.As a side note, I noticed that America's Test Kitchen tried to review this with a group of others. This item did not even make the first cut as an authentic Belgian Waffle is supposed to be thicker.

Basic, but awesome.
You don't need a fancy waffle iron. This one couldn't be easier to use. Plug it in and wait for the light to go out, then it's ready for the batter. The light comes back on while the waffle is baking, when the light goes back out it's done! I've had no issues with waffles sticking to the plates. The waffles are delicious. Search for the King Arthur flour Belgian waffle recipe for absolutely perfect waffles at home.

Great little unit
The size is perfect for a family of two. More than that and I suggest you get a larger model. It heats up very quickly. The built-in light system informs you when to add batter and remove the finished waffle. I find that to get the color I want, I have to wait 20 seconds or so after the green light comes back on. The clean-up is a breeze although I do wipe the grids with an oil-moistened cloth before each use.

Makes OK Waffles
I have a larger waffle maker that I use everyday. I got this one because it is small and I needed it to fit in the luggage to take on vacation. It serves that need well. It made waffles just like it was supposed to. You plug it in, when the light goes off, it is ready. After reading the other reviews, I did apply a little cooking spray. The light comes back on and goes off when the waffle is ready. There is no audible beep or signal when the maker is hot, nor when the waffle is ready. Just watch the light. Not a big deal. The waffles didn’t stick and were ok. I did find that the pockets are not as deep as my larger waffle maker, making the waffles not as fluffy.

Won't store vertically as advertised. Does work well to make waffles.
Well I am a little disappointed here. I specifically bought this to store it upright as it was advertised. It does not sit upright on its own. It will easily flip open. It also claims to have a "cord wrap" on the bottom but there is no such thing. At no point are you able to secure the power cord, which is really short. Also an odd design choice, instead of having the power cord lead out the back of the unit, it actually points inside the center of the device, making it awkward and worrisome to have this thing literally sitting on top of it's own power cord as it heats up. It's an odd choice they made. This is a cheaper waffle maker. I figured for as often as I'd use it, it was worth the risk.I read the instructions and made a waffle. The instructions say not to use spray cooking oil, so I did, because to heck with them. No one is brushing oil on these things anymore. The world did not end, and my waffle cooked up just fine. I made another too and it was just great. If you cook waffles correctly, the cleanup should be minimal. Still, it's hard to get this clean, as are all waffle makers. The instructions scream at you not to put running water over it, so I did that to because to heck with them. How else do you clean up oil off of it!? I see now why removable griddle plates are a good option for these things. For a basic waffle maker, this is totally fine. It cooks nicely and works well. I don't like the odd short cord, or the fact that you can't store it upright which I really needed to do. But it makes fine waffles.
