I have a new Point of View
This book gave me some inspiration on how to reuse some of my cookie cutters! I always see bakers reuse certain shapes and create something new. Now, I'm better at seeing different shapes in my cookie cutters. I also like that the book included recipes and where they purchased the cookie cutters they used in the book!

Disappointed! Was expecting more diverse use of a cookie cutter than the obvious turning it upside down or sideways!
I bought the book because I wanted help in "thinking outside the box" in designing cookies using the cookie cutters I already own. I wanted to be more adapt at adding or removing parts of a cut shape to create a completely different cookie design.I was some what disappointed with this book. The author presents a cookie cutter with a handful of photos, and directions to decorate different designs created from one cutter. I found this book to be too simplistic. The majority of the images the author creates are very obvious and do not involve much creativity. These "different" designs are created by positioning the cookie cutter in a different way than it was intended. For example, the Guitar Cookie cutter was positioned on its side with the neck of the guitar facing toward the right(instead of it vertically positioned with the guitar neck pointing up) to create a "ship in a bottle" design. This same guitar cookie cutter was turned upside down with the neck of the guitar facing downward for a hand holding "cotton candy." Basically the author repositioned the cookie cutter from its intended position and decorated it in another design. The heart cookie cutter and the 4 different designs on the cover of the book are created by manipulating the position of the cookie cutter. There are detailed instructions for decorating each design with a photo of the decorated cookie, but no photos of the decorating process. I would have preferred photos depicting the decorating process rather than lengthy instructions, especially since the instructions are "basically" the same for every cookie. 1. Make the cookies, 2. Make the royal icing and tint, 3. Outline the cookie, etc.I was hoping the author would have "altered" the shape cut out from the cookie cutter into a different design. For example, make a Birthday Cake with a football, Easter egg or oval cutter by cutting the two long ends off.. Or Make a Baby Carriage with a Circle cutter by cutting a 1/4 slice from the circle.I think this book would be most helpful for the very novice cookie decorator.

fabulous!
i think this book is fantastic! i think her cookie and icing recipes are spot on. her descriptions and method are great and are explained very well. i looked for this book after watching videos of patti on youtube. i would recommend anyone interested in this book to go watch her on youtube to see if you like her approach before buying the book. for me, it's been a huge help and definitely worth the purchase. it's very in-depth and considered - she even has a little section on how to package cookies to ship! thanks patti!

Cookie cutters not included
I bought this as a gift and had it shipped directly to my daughter-in-law. I can't speak for the book, but I can say I was very misled into thinking that the pictured cookie cutters came with the book. How else would someone be able to make the bunny from their own potentially very different Santa face? I almost didn't buy this book due to all the reviews complaining about lack of pictures and instructions. I figured that having the cutters was worth it. I realize now that nowhere did it say anything about cookie cutters coming with the book. I guess I thought this was more like a kit. Live and learn.

One cookie cutter many ways to use it
I felt all the info at the beginning of the book was not necessary but anyone who can think of 4 different ways to use one cookie cutter is a genius. I'm having a hard time thinking of different ways of using mine. I'm sorry I don't have the same cutters Patti Paige does so that I can just steal her ideas instead of trying to come up with my own. She has definitely given me the inspiration to push my imagination further than I thought it could ever go.

A New Look at Cookies
I started baking cutout cookies a couple of years ago. I have watched Patti on YouTube and she is very talented so when I heard about her book I had to have it. Now I find myself looking at all of my cookie cutters and trying to find new ways to use them.

I would recommend this concise and easy format book for any skill ...
I've been following Patti Paige's decorated cookie articles since the late 80's. This book contains all of her many years of knowledge, tips & tricks. I would recommend this concise and easy format book for any skill level if you want to do more with the cookie cutters that you have, you want to make your own cookie cutters, and or you love decorating cookies.

Best Buy Eva
Best Buy Eva.. I am so glad I invested in this book. This book was thicker than I expected (its a good thing trust me). It was filled with all sorts of information for any cookie decorating beginners as well as cookie decorating experts. This books also teaches us that we do not need every single cookie cutter out there and that a single cookie cutter could be decorated for many things. I recommend this book to anyone who loves cookie decorating.

Interesting book
A great book for those who enjoy baking and decorating cookies. Lots of inspirational ideas and pictures. I would not think this would be so good for a complete beginner as some of the ideas are quite advanced but viewing online videos of icing techniques first and some practice first would help. There are no step by step picture instructions just written ones and a picture of the finished cookies. Also be aware that this is a North American publication and some of the cutters are not as common in the UK, such as baseball mitt, Texas outline, baseball cap. I suppose you could use other thin metal cutters and adapt by bending into the required shapes. However there are a couple of good looking cookie recipes and pages of useful general tips and the recipes are in grams as well as cups.Despite all this, I'm very glad to have found this book, it has certainly given me lots of ideas of how to use or adapt my own cutters and I will also try some of the recipes.I found a video on YouTube of the author making cookie cutters, put in Patti Paige cookies and you will see a good housekeeping half hour demo. That's how I became aware of this book in the first place!
