Informative & necessary for todays parents
I'm halfway through this book and I'm already blown away by the amount of insight I've been able to gain into the problem of porn in today’s culture. The book is a very easy read; the book is broad, the discussions are separated very logically, each chapter is readable for the passive or light reader based on specific topics. Matt Fradd does an excellent job of providing a comprehensive historical background of the porn industry, as well as solid research to back its effects (e.g., erectile dysfunction, relationship problems, physiological/neurological brain changes similar to drug addiction that result in the need for a more extreme “fix”…the list goes on). Therefore, I think this book is a good choice for both those starting out in their learning journey and those who are well-versed to have an empirically-strong reference in your book collection. This is a struggle too many young adults deal with today. Younger and younger our children are being introduced to, or discovering, the distorted sexuality being pushed by those only interested in making the buck. Have an Ipad? Does your child’s best friend at school have a smart phone? Behold the dangers of technology. This book presents the issues and also provides solutions. As a parent I was particularly interested in protecting my children from the problems porn forces us to face, and after sifting through the book I have been given a solid foundation that I believe will help me foster a healthy and realistic understanding of human sexuality.I have a close friend whose kids are in high school and college. His stories have emboldened me to seek out all of the help I can get; things like bestiality, sexual abuse/violence, and incest were mentioned. What should I do as a parent to save my child from this? In today’s world we are limited on this sort of support. Doctors are still catching up to the issue. How can I protect my children from a culture that loses itself to the way society objectifies both sex and our sexuality? This book is a solid starting point. I feel more confident and prepared to raise my children in a world saturated by sex.

An Important Objective Discussion on a Cultural Phenomenon
This book is a sobering account of the cultural phenomenon known as porn saturation. In it, the reader is allowed to look upon critically to what is happening to the viewer of pornography, as well as to all of the collateral damage that comes in its wake. Make no mistake about it, our brains are under attack and have been for a long time. Pornography exploits the brain chemical dopamine, and it seeks to overload all of the wiring of our thinking minds to the point that dependence is the outcome. To be clear, this is not happening only through the use of pornography, it is happening in regards to all media. The choice of reports and stories that are selected to be portrayed in news updates and broadcasts, are intentionally chosen based on the dopamine rush that it can illicit. The only difference is that with pornography, the rush comes from hijacking the natural sex drive, while in media, the purpose is to hijack our natural tendency for fear, and self preservation. Personally, I have chosen to avoid both pornography and media. Although pornography may elicit a greater chemical rush, there are natural limits to how much it be do the exploiting. On the other hand, media can be consumed perpetually, sending the mind into a non stop tizzy of excitement and fear. The contents of this book bring a valuable objective perspective to what’s going on, while the activity itself brings one to a tunnel vision state. It’s high quality reading, and I highly recommend it..

Amazing book: very enriching personally, a great resource professionally
Matt Fradd does an awesome job synthesizing a library of psychological research about pornography and making them easily accessible to anyone without the background (and time...) to dig into such a massive body of scientific research. On top of that, he shares numerous personal accounts and testimonies from people who work or worked in the porn industry that really shed light on the shady nature of the porn industry, as well as the devastating effects for individuals, families and society as a whole. It is an epidemic and its damage is not even fully understood, but luckily Fradd points out strategies, solutions and hope that overcoming the detrimental effects of pornography is possible, and even preventing them in the first place, starting by educating people, especially youth and children. To me personally, who am a prospective mental health professional and regularly exposed to psychological research, this "mini-library" will be tremendous help for working with future clients - educating, exposing the myths, providing help and resources and to restore relationship damaged by pornography (To mention just one example: "The U-Turn on the Porn-Superhighway" based on the activation sequence by Dr. Kevin Skinner). The amount of literature found in this book in order to convince people is amazing - and a constant resource in my pocket when engaging in dialogue with other trained mental health professionals and scientists who "operate" on that level of the science world.Even though there is a lot to say about the moral aspects of why pornography is objectionable, which are often dismissed by many as "religious badgering", the book is entirely free of religion in any of its arguments. It provides a rich example that there is a case to be made about pornography completely separate from (I would prefer to say: in addition to) faith. Fradd does an amazing job walking the fine line of dealing with a topic that inherently touches on the essence of what it means to be human (i.e. faith), and yet not making this book one that uses or imposes his faith perspectives. After reading this book, I would be astonished anyone not being convinced of the harm porn is doing to people on both ends of the industry - producer or consumer. Very highly recommended to both anyone affected by and interested in the effects of pornography as well as professionals dealing with this topic in a clinical setting.

Brilliant Book on Porn Addiction
I am currently exploring the literature on porn addiction and "The Porn Myth" is one of the most intellectually engaging books out there. It will definitely challenge, in a good way, the way you think about porn. It will bring to surface certain assumptions you did not even realize you had and show you the potential negative effects of porn on your relationships that you were not even aware of.This books is definitely a pretty moralistic stance against porn addiction, which makes the arguments powerful - you need strong arguments when your porn watching self starts to argue with you - but at the same this can be a disadvantage. Gary Wilson in "Your Brain On Porn" writes that "people ... often make rapid progress in rebooting after they re-frame their porn challenge in biological terms."For this reason I find "Your Brain On Porn" to be a stronger book, so my advice would be to read both books. I feel like they compliment each other. "Your Brain On Porn" is mostly about thoroughly understanding the addiction in terms of brain chemistry and how to practically overcome it, while "The Porn Myth" is more about the outrageousness and suffering porn causes, both in your life and in the lives of performers. Here I must mention that "The Porn Myth" names several actresses in order to discuss then, which might be a trigger.Overall, this is one of the best books on porn addiction out there, and it does contain a solid practical section to supplement the theory, with some unique techniques you can use, some of them not being presented even in "Your Brain On Porn."

Everyone should read it
We live in very difficult times, and pornography is one of the greatest plague we have to face. Especially the new generations have been profoundly wounded by it, and we are only starting to see the consequences.Matt Fradd wonderfully exposes our current situation, presenting also the science that gives evidence of porn's detrimental effects.

Moral and Biased
While Matt Fradd repeatedly tells us that this book avoids the religious argument it most certainly favours the moral one. Fradd often laments the 'fallen woman' pornstar trope despite the growing evidence that for many (admittedly not in the extreme Gonzo profession) it's a well paying and potentially enjoyable profession. At times this morality creeps into bias and his twist on Kendall and D'Amato's claim that porn has led to a decline in rape (the sole benefit of pornography) citing surveys that are manifestly changing the definition of rape, is hypocritical given that the very group moving the goal posts (3rd wave feminists) are the ones he chastises for redefining the morality of pornography! All in all it's a good book, moderately well written in a convivial style. It only trumps Gary Wilson's 'Your Brain on Porn' in its more holistic perspective; in terms of neutrality and scientific credence it pales in comparison.btw I'm anti-porn/nofap and all that
