Classroom Activities for the Busy Teacher: NXT (2nd Ed)

We offer three quarters of robotics at our middle school. There are several sections of each level, and we often have teachers new to robotics teaching Robotics I. After getting Mr. Kee's book, we have altered the curriculum of one quarter to incorporate several of his lessons. His lessons include STEM activities, especially math not often found in other robotics tutorials. These lessons make it easy for the new teachers to learn and teach the intro quarter. The students find the DomoBot versatile and easy to build and add actuators and sensors to and really like the activities, especially "The Wave", art, "34;Don't Go Off the Cliff"; and other sensor related activities. It's easy to add more extension challenges based on the ones he provides. After the completing his lessons, students have enough knowledge of NXT-G programming and robots to develop an independent challenge and solve it. Great book!

This book is packed with well designed and engaging 10 week robotics curriculum. There is plenty of detail (but not too much) to carry out the lessons with minimal preparation required. Worksheets and sample programs are provided. The lessons are easy to read and follow.

writing one's own curriculum is the best way to go if you have time, but as damien kee knows, time is the one thing that most classroom teachers don't have much extra of. so his book makes it easy to implement robotics into the curriculum without reinventing the proverbial wheel.
