What makes this so much more expensive then say a belomo????

It’s the achromatic/aplanatic lens. I do a lot of my own grading and was having eye strain. This made all the difference. I still use it everyday and have had it 4+ yrs now. Well worth the investment in my opinion.

Yes, the net viewing diameter of the lens is precisely 20mm. The outer diameter of the frame is 26.9mm.

Does anyone have a l1 to compare it too? Or compared to a zeiss loupe?

I have not compared it to an L1. I do have a friend in the trade who has a nice Zeiss. The viewing field is comparatively tiny and the distortion is distracting. We all get used to our loupes and prefer what is comfortable but I will say that I have had my L2 for about five years and I am glad I made the investment. If you’ve lost the occasional $100 loupe like me, this one will pay for itself in the added pressure to not misplace it.
