Hot Tub Time Machine

Classic in the making
Well, I got this movie on DVD after thinking it looked far too stupid to watch on the big screen. And I was right. In a way. This is a VERY silly movie that lives up to the ridiculous title very easily. But for all that, it's a firm favourite already in our house and among our group of friends. It revels in its silliness. Do they try and explain the Hot Tub being a time machine - no. Do they ignore it - no, do they instead make it even more confusing with semi-cryptic Chevy Chase mutterings - Bingo. First reaction to going back in time- do a load of drugs - of course. How to explain time travel to each other? 80s and 90s movie references. Blatant cheating and I loved it. I think that last point really to me explains why we love it so. As the characters go back in time, in some way, so does the film, it reminds me of the high point of 80s movies - Back to the future being the obvious example, but it has that feel of lacking the weariness, cynicism and post modernity of most similar stuff being made these days and replaces it with the old straight up comic tale. Love stories, comic relief characters, everything is played straight on its merits. I really enjoyed it, and laughed almost non-stop. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Slick comedy, strangely overlooked
Maybe it is the oddly expensive price (compared to many others) of the DVD and Blu Ray that explains why there are so few reviews of this cracking comedy. It is refreshingly slick and well edited, especially so when compared to the recent glut of baggy slacker comedies around at the moment. Unlike them, this is consistently funny and well executed, with a clever yet familiar story as well as some great set pieces and quality delivery from a great cast. Yes it is crude, there is a fair amount of swearing, but no more so than in similar comedies of recent years. What it does have is lots of laughs, a better storyline than most, and a few surprises along the way. Strange that this film has been overlooked. I rented it with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. Certainly one of my favourites of recent years and, looking at the reviews, bar a couple of stray 1 star ones that virtually any film on here gets, the majority of three-and-above ratings tell you this is a safe bet for an entertaining evening, especially if you grew up in the 80s and fancy a bit of nostalgia thrown in.

One of the best comedies of 2010
This is one of my favourite comedy films of all time. A funny rewind to the 80s, that i loved. you don't have to have lived through the 80s to enjoy this film, you'll get the references, well I did and I was born in the 90s. The humour is also funny with it not just being toilet humour like many films are at the moment. A great cast with Rob Corddry's performance as Lou being the best. But don't get me wrong Craig Robinson, Clark Duke and John Cusack are all great in this as well. Plus the film has a great supporting cast with the likes of Chevy Chase and Crispin Glover. There is a very funny running joke in the film including Crispin Glover which I won't ruin. Overall it's a well made, well directed (Steve Pink), very well acted, great comedy film, for those who lived through the 80s or not.

Refreshingly un PC, crude, rude and brilliant!
This is one of the funniest films I have watched in ages, the premise is utterly ridiculous but it is great fun. There are occasional moments of pathos when the characters realise what theirs lives might have been had they taken a different turn, but these are more than surplanted by a rugby team on tour like approach to events.Good cast, blu ray looked well and a very entertaining movie, but not one for the kids or Granny (unless she is the type that likes vodka and big d**ks).

Wicked
No point in me telling you what the story is about as you will find that in the other reviews. In short you need to have a wicked and dry sense of humor for this movie to appreciate how funny it is. I found it excellent. You need to pick up on many one liners to appreciate the wit but if you have a wicked sense of humor you will. It's worth it - give it a try :)

Very funny, some sexual scenes, some drug use
Very funny film. Started off a bit dark, but it soon turned into outright comedy, with a happy ending. Bad language, some sexual scenes and drug use. A bit 'gross out', but not too much.

Better than expected
I'm a big John Cusack fan, but I have to say that I've been surprised at some of the films he has been involved in as an actor. I got this film expecting it to be terrible, but was surprised to find that it really wasn't that bad and I quite enjoyed it for elements other than John Cusack himself. I'm not saying it's necessarily a film I'll watch again in a hurry, but I won't throw it out either!
