Excellent book overall. WC paper provided is defective!
Okay. This is probably one of the best WC Landscape instruction books out there (haven’t tried them all)... I even gave these as gifts to my painting buddies. I have high regards to Grahame Booth as an artist. His artwork is beautiful with its own style and he is a wonderful and generous teacher - tips in his books and online... I’m not trying to paint exactly like him - as he advised everyone to find their own style - but like he said, if I want to learn from him I have to like how he paints. So to me is a living WC Master! The reason I took one star of is because the WC paper provided in this book (and in another book on flowers by J. King) is terrible! As other reviewers have said, something is wrong with the paper - when you apply WC paint and the paper gets slightly wet, multiple dots that look like a “rash” show up and pick on the color making the whole thing darker... and forget about “lifting”/editing technique and other things ... it just doesn’t work as it should! I’m surprised it’s supposed to be Bockingford WC paper. I have Bockingford and it’s very good! What’s going on with the paper provided in these books is a strange thing...Anyway, I’m still using the books (and the paper provided) just for practice and for learning the technique and the concept. But if I wanted to paint on something framable, I would have to use my own paper:) Great book anyway!

Superb and practical lessons for aspiring watercolorists
I’m very much a beginner and love this book. The concept of providing sketches for each piece is just a brilliant idea. I’m also trying to learn how to draw and taking both skills on at the same time could be really intimidating. One of the concepts you learn from reproducing the author’s drawings is how much simplification you would do when making an original landscape. Having the sketches bound in the book on watercolor paper is a great ideas, though as the author suggest it’s a good idea to copy them in case you need to start again. I copied them onto good quality paper, so I can’t speak the the quality of the paper bound into the book. I transfered the supplied art, using Strathmore tracing paper with a Pentel 7mm mechanical pencil (I used a 2b ‘lead’), on to sheets of Canson cold press watercolor paper and taped them to foam core board using blue decorators masking tape from the hardware store. The book starts with an introduction with great suggestions about what you need. I found a Rembrandt squirrel hair mop brush on sale for 60% off bought a Winsor and Newton Cotman #8 round and a #1 Cotman rigger to add to a #6 Cotman brush that came with a paint set, as well as a 1” flat brush for washes. I used Winsor and Newton Artist paint in the colors suggested by the author. The biggest challenge for me is mixing paint and getting colors that blend at the right consistency. What I like about this book is the way each of the six projects build on each other, adding new skills. Each project is about 50 steps and can be completed in an evening or two.I’ve done all of the projects in the book and have been really happy with the results. Do the side projects suggested because they make the actual ones a lot easier.Great book from a wonderful artist and very good teacher with lots of practical advice for the aspiring landscape painter. Really recommend this book and very happy with my progress!

Classroom in a book
I found this book to be quite useful. I like the simple drawings for practice. Tip: trace the coloring pages onto watercolor paper you like better. If you don't like the drawings included in the book, draw your own or copy from a picture you like better. The point is to improve your watercolor skills. This book helps with that.

Super Useful
I am an intermediate watercolor painter. I know the basics and just wanted some examples to practice while we are all stuck inside. I like that paintings are step by step, the demonstrations are reproduced large enough, and that they have a separate sketch for each demonstration that one could copy or paint on top of. I highly recommend to anyone who has the basic watercolor skills and is looking for inspiration or examples that can help them improve their skills. Please Graham make more of these books!

Instructive and friendly
I am certainly not a beginning painter but I learned a great deal about new techniques from doing all of the step by step paintings in this book. My work looked terrific and the skills I learned have become part of my expression. I'm so pleased I'm getting his book on Street Scenes. I highly recommend his instructive books.

great step- by-step watercolor instruction
I love this book. I am an intermediate watercolor painter and still learned quite a bit. Unlike many other books that show only a few steps with lots of written instructions, this book has a picture for most steps. The finished painting is on a whole page showing all the detail. He also provides the paper with a drawing in the back of this book. For $20 , you get so much instruction. I will buy more of these books. I am very happy.

Those with excellent vision might enjoy. Myself not so much.
The writing is so small it's annoying. I only wear glasses occasionally but for this book I need them all the way through which means I can't just pick it up for a quick glance or take it out with me without finding my glasses or taking them with me. I don't know how the printers could justify making the writing so small. Was it a cost thing? Cramming more into a smaller book. Well it kind of backfires because I won't be buying any more books from this company for fear of same issue. One of problems of buying online. Had I seen before purchase I wouldn't have purchased.

Great book but included artist paper bad
It's a great book but make sure you have your own paper. I tried one of the watercolour sheets with the pattern on it and the quality is like nothing I've even seen in the cheapest paper out there. When I wet the paper bumps appeared. Then when I added color you can see in the picture how the paint and paper reacted together. This book should just have velum patterns and we get our own paper. But remember the content of the book is great.

Paper supplied is faulty - instructions are great.
The book & instructions are great but the paper in the book is faulty & does not handle water well, as a watercolour book, this is very dissappointing. You are supplied pictures to paint with the book, as per the authors instructions, but the painting is ruined at the first wash applied.
