I bought this set for my 3 year olds birthday party. It had different height settings. If your nephew likes football, he'll love it. We had a wide range of kids from 2-10

The size of the football is definitely not suitable for a 12 year old. Not sure on the exact size of it, but it's even too small for my 4 year old son to throw. Great set but we use a regular nerf size football instead of this. It works for my 2 year old daughter to play with.

On the one I purchased, the posts are 4 ft apart; the support post adjusts from 4-6 feet in height.
