Q: does the scope do OK on an air rifle

I've been using it for quite some time on my Benjamin Prowler 22 cal Nitro piston air rifle. Beats the Center Point that was on it. Longevity I'll know better later. Only at a couple hundred, maybe 300 so far. Still, it's centered.

Q: Will the rings mount on a Mossberg 702 plinster

Surely will fit the 3/8ths dovetail that the 702 came with stock.

Q: Do these rings fit Marlin Model 60 rail?

Yes, they fit my Model 60 perfectly. But they're not the greatest rings. I had a problem getting them to stick tight and stay tight. I got a "UTG Airgun .22 Medium Profile Integral 1-Inch Ring Mount" and put that on instead. It's rock solid and the scope loves it.

Q: The scope is very blurry out of the box, do I have a defective unit ?

If your scope is blurry it's either defective or you've had too much to drink. ;-)). I would return the scope. I have three of them and they are all clear.
