Safe Cat Fashion Adjustable Breakaway Cat Safety Collar with Bell, Skulls, Girth 8-12 Inches x 3/8" Width (1-Unit)

My cat wore this for four years. The outer surface has wear and fading from her scratching, grooming, etc - just age. The material hasn't broken down and it's still in good condition. BUT I noticed a while ago that I couldn't pop the buckle open. I finally worked it apart and then once I had it off, tested how much force it took for the buckle to breakaway. The plastic broke before the buckle gave. My cat weighs less than 8lb - there's no way it would break just with her hanging by it. I'm sure it was looser when it was new. As someone else mentioned, for your cat's safety, check the buckle at least every couple weeks to make sure it still opens easily. I would buy this again because I love the design and quality, but I will be sure to be more aware of maintaining the buckle.

This Coastal Pet breakaway collar is presently more secure than my cat's prior one which (with age, I guess) became more prone to pop offs & ultimately was lost. I liked the cute idea of the white skull & crossbones pattern on black background, but had hoped/expected they were made of reflective materials that illuminate in the dark. Unfortunately, this collar is not a "glow-in-the-dark" style, but it is made well and quite comfortable for my pet cat. I'm very pleased it has a bell already attached, because I was tiring of having to attach my own bells to his prior collars that didn't have them. I'd like to note that pricing on the Coastal Pet collars do vary unpredictably. The one I purchased is now about $3 more than what I paid, so I'll be first to admit I'd probably have passed on this purchase at it's current price point. Also to avoid deception, the picture Amazon shows here is not the same collar as the one I purchased. Also, to clarify, I'm not herein providing a review pertinent to the entire Coastal Pet brand, only to the specific unit I purchased - which we like well so far!5/23/17 Update: While away on vacation for a week earlier this month. My pet sitting service provider apparently either found a need to remove this skull collar from my cat, or it came off somehow & she retrieved it (so it wasn't lost); however, I've been unable to clasp it back around my cat's neck b/c it simply will not unhinge or pop open in order to do so. This brings into mind that the breakaway feature may have or may be failing. Although I could probably loosen the cinch slack to slip it over my cat's head & retighten so he can continue wearing it, I am rather reluctant to trust that the breakaway feature is functioning properly. For the meantime, my kitty cat will continue to run around "naked" (sans collar) until I find a reliable breakaway substitute that is reliable. Thus I'm reducing my rating on it from 4 stars to 2 stars due to this issue. It is, however, still proving to be quite durable.

Looks great on my black cat, makes her look like a pirate badass anarchist kitty. Haha 😹. I like that it has the correct snap-swivel clasp thingamajig that keeps cats from getting choked if their collar gets caught on anything— I think it’s called a breakaway collar if I remember correctly. Durable, lasts about a year and a half without needing to get a new one, and not because it breaks or snaps, it’s just that my cat scratches the collar so much that by then you can’t see the design. Not too thick, but comfortably thin yet strong. Perfect size for small to medium sized kitty.

I liked the bright colors on this collar and the fact that the material was smooth so my cat doesn't scratch at it as much. Unfortunately I have a unique problem which means my cat can probably not wear it. My other cat likes to groom him and also bite and pull at his collar - I've found that she's able to "adjust" it to be too tight by pulling at it in the spot between the adjustment slide and the clasp, and it doesn't release when she does this. I'm worried she will be able to tighten it too much with her pulling and choke the other cat.

Lightweight, decent cat collar. The breakaway clasp works and our old hefty cat has left it on his neck. The bell was immediately removed before it was placed on him - the metal piece holding it is cheap and wouldn’t hold a name tag.

My Boy, LOVES his Collar!!! He always has to have it on.... The only time I take it off is to brush his neck... He knows it is SKULLS AND CROSS BONES, he keeps it on, it is his personality.... I have tried heart collars and duck collars, he pulls them off... This is his look... Total keeper. Easy to Breakaway too... He is MY BOY....

The collar did what it was supposed to when my cat got caught up on the chair rung playing chase with my other cat. I was able to put it back on her. She is fine and I was able to put the collar back on her because it wasn't ruined. I have a black cat with attitude and this is the coolest collar for her!

so cute! the collar does wear after a little bit of time but its durable. it also snaps off with a decent amount of force. i can also hear my cat from a mile away thanks to that bell lol
