Crazy looking - but it works
This summer has been the summer of seafood boils at home with friends. Despite COVID restrictions lowered, my wife and I are still not comfortable with indoor dining at restaurants. We opted for backyard seafood boils with friends instead. Now traditional nutcracker/seafood crackers are okay, but they do tend to crush the crab meat. When I saw the Caretta was made from the same company that makes our nutcracker, I was like, sold.The caretta is excellent at cracking the claws. Not so much the crab legs. In the end, the caretta with the help of a seafood scissor, makes munching crabs satisfying. Plus the combo extracts cleanly the most amount of crab meat.

Simply the best seafood cracker. Another reviewer pointed out that the jaw movement is limited, but I consider that to be a feature. Simply put the claw in as far as possible, squeeze the handle, turn it over and repeat. The claw can be broken apart easily. I was a bit skeptical about ordering this, but I rate it five stars and definitely recommend purchasing for shellfish claws. I use scissors for cutting open legs. This would probably work for that too, but I have not used it that way.

Wish it worked as great as it looks.
This cracker is beautiful and ingenious. (It actually disassembles into three pieces.) I like gadgets with some design style, especially ones that take a new, clever approach to solving an old problem. This is not your grandmother's lobster cracker. Unfortunately, it doesn't work nearly as well as hers. The jaw only moves about 3/4" leaving an opening of 1". And the lower jaw is so narrow that it often just cuts into the shell rather than cracking it.

Works great and does not crush the meat in the claws but get the claw open. Does not spit liquid up at you and it is easy to use. We love it.
