Q: i just got mine it is open! how do I close it??

Gotta press your thumb into the cutout in the handle. Push to the side. Unless your talking about how it randomly opens, and is hard to keep closed. Then you gotta tighten the screws by the blade a bit.

Q: does anyone know what kind of stainless the blade is made from? Item description just says titanium coated stainless steel. Is it 440a? b? c?

The blade simply says"440 stainless" I would not suggest buying this knife mine won't even stay closed after a day of use.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean. I had one screw that fell out, caught it before lost; then tightened the others. I think the manufactures should add locktight or some other thing to hold this product together. Again, yeh, I know what you mean.

Q: How does the blade open?

Spring release. However be advised the knife will sometimes open in your pocket. Inexpensive purchase and my blade does hold it's edge but I don't like it sometimes opening up in my pocket.
