What is methylglyoxal? Too complex to explain here, but it is the active ingredient in Manuka Honey and gives health benefits. What is Manuka? Leptospermum scoparium is the botanical name for this broom tree or tea tree (not the tea tree oil type) native to Australia and New Zealand, but often found in California gardens. The flowers from this tree yield Manuka honey. This honey contains methylglyoxal. The higher the content of methylglyoxal, the higher the UMF factor. Methylglyoxal has wound healing, anti-inflammatory, anti viral, anti bacterial, and anti septic properties. It has been known to combat e coli, staph infections, and prevent the common cold. There are studies available online to support this statement. UMF 20+ = 829 MGO (measurement of methylglyoxal content in the honey) UMF 18+ = 692 MGO UMF 15+ = 514 MGO UMF 12+ = 354 MGO UMF 10+ = 263 MGO UMF 5+ = 83 MGO (so weak its not very beneficial)

UMF is the international standard of measurement for MGO content. It means it was independently tested for Methylglyoxal (MGO) content. MGO is the Methylglyoxal measurement. However, any label missing UMF is not trust worthy. I can put any MGO number on my label and not be challenged because my honey was not tested by a lab and CERTIFIED to have a basic amount of Methylglyoxal in my honey. In other words, don't trust MGO labeling, only UMF labels. UMF 20+ = 829 MGO units. MGO 550 should equal UMF 15+ but is not certified, so seller can say whatever they want on their label with no proof. For MRSA oral benefits, highest level UMF possible should be consumed. You may also try Oxy Drops which is liquid oxygen - MUST BE DILUTED WITH WATER!!! Use directly on skin wound, and also take it orally. Very effective for MRSA and very safe.
