I am not understading a "leave in" conditioner. Do you use just a shampoo, then dry their coat and then put this on? Is this a groomer tip?

Yes, after bath and dry coat, then use small amount on your hands (just like you would with lotion) and rub it on your dog. I like the unscented best.
