My food and health bible for 15 years!
An avid watcher of the TV series back in the early 2000s, this book literally changed my life. Overweight from about 11 years old, in my early 20s I became even more overweight, sometimes losing a little weight, sometimes gaining more back.Read numerous times from cover to cover, I absorbed every inch of this incredible book. I took supplements to help with a few ailments I had which improved them dramatically and the bonus, I lost 6 stone in weight with very little effort and my only exercise was walking for at least an hour a day (due to a damaged spine). In 2003 I weighed 16 stone and by mid 2004 I was 8 stone. I stayed 8 stone for years with no effort at all. Just eating the plethora of foods from the abundance list, walking every day and taking vitamin supplements.Sadly cut to 2010 and I stopped being so vigilant in my health. Then I had a baby and cravings sent me into a sugary downward spiral, and I paid the price in my weight and overall health. So I repurchased the book since I couldn’t find my old one and am on the path to rectify the last ten years of damage I’ve done to my health. In just one week I’m feeling better, my rosacea which felt like someone had blowtorched my face is 90% cleared up and I’m eating and enjoying food so much more.I’ll never understand why Gillian McKeith would get the flack she did, because her strategy for health is life changing.I’m so excited to be back to the vitality, energy, optimal health and weight. It’s going to be a long haul as I’m starting from square one again, but I know I can do it and I’m more determined than ever.Thank you Gillian

Sensible, no fads and a change in eating lifestyle
The book isn't well organised, and the information contained in the book can largely be found from elsewhere, as other readers have mentioned... but it's an interesting read, lots of useful tips and information and it works. It works because it's all about sensible eating for life - this is no faddy diet. Get rid of the unhealthy foods bring in new healthy foods and find out what works for you.The foods advocated in the book will make you feel fuller and more energised - resulting in you eating less overall. Combine this with the advice to exercise little and often and of course you'll lose weight. You may not need this book as you could get the information from various sources - but the presention and easy to read style all in one place could provide that last push to get you on the right road. It's worked for me.

Inspiration for better eating habits
I really find the advice and information in this book inspiring, particularly when I am tempted to eat convenience food or junk. As a rule I eat very healthily, as I am practically vegan, but Gillian Mckeith helped to introduce me to a wealth of food I knew nothing about, such as quinoa, which is fast becoming one of my favourite foods, cooked in miso soup with tofu and roast veggies..yum. The best thing about eating such healthy, wholesome food is that you feel a lot better just for eating it. As well as great nutritional advice, Gillian offers self help advice and there are plenty of quizzes and checks to see what you are deficient in and what you are eating too much of.I haven't and wouldn't try the detox, because it's too much hassle and I can't eat that little or I would probably faint, but her juice and recipe ideas are great. It's not set in stone, just pick and choose what is good for you.I read and re-read this book all the time and it is always refreshing and puts me back on track to healthy eating. I agree that for some people, eating foods such as quinoa, tofu, or aduki beans is a challenge, and I would never catch my other half eating such things but for those willing to try something new, go for it, your body will thank you!

Pretty much a book about common sense advice
I bought this book because I was looking for some advice on how to improve my digestion and general wellbeing, such as lack of energy and feeling bloated. I do not need to lose any weight & my diet is generally healthy already. Being well educated and curious about the science behind nutritional facts, I was disappointed about the little explanation that the author offers to substantiate her suggestions. In addition, when she gives some explanation she seems to mix up scientific facts with ideas from Chinese medicine & perhaps other `alternative' approaches without making any acknowledgment that she is doing so. If you go for this book & follow the advice be prepared to spend a lot of money on supplements and special foods. In addition, it might not be entirely realistic to follow this `diet' all the time as it would mean never going out for dinner or visiting friends, etc. All in all, integrating my diet with the supplements suggested has improved my digestion & energy levels. However, I doubt that anyone following this plan would lose any weight unless of course they are morbidly obese and eating lots of rubbish all the time...but then again probably any healthy eating plan would work?

Indispensable book for my health
A friend lent me this book while I was in the middle of reading another book about food intolerance. I read this one after I had read the other one and realized this book is indispensable for me and I am going to order my own copy right now. It is FULL of good information and I am going to try the 7 day diet first. I have already tried to cut right down on coffee, tea, sugar, bread, cheese and eggs and seem to start having a little more energy now. This is a book I need to hand.

NOT A DIET PLAN, BUT A SMART, WELL WRITTEN AND EASY TO READ PERSPECTIVE ON WHAT YOU SHOVE IN YOUR PIE HOLE!
I'm not old, but I am getting older. I am realizing that the things I ate/drank with abandon in my twenties aren't things I can continue with the same way in my thirties (if at all). I am more conscious of how my body operates depending on how I treat it with food and exercise (or with bad food and little or no exercise). Make no mistake, this is NOT A DIET book. But it IS a really smart book that gives you a wonderful perspective on your body and how food can help or harm it in very relatable terms. It will make sense to anyone who reads it and it's so easy to read (approachable) that I almost finished it in one night! The magazine like pages are great. This book really helped me think about what I was shoving in my pie hole! And now I understand why I was feeling some of the things I felt after eating some of the things she talks about in her book! McKeith keeps things real. I bought this for myself and liked it so much I ordered 4 more copies and sent them as gifts. DEFINITELY WORTH BUYING AND READING. So very happy I bought it and the people I bought copies for told me they can't wait to start reading it too.

This book is for everyone who wants to feel and look good
I have never reviewed a book before although I have read 1000's. I love this book because it combines so many theories and data that I have read in so many other books and articles, and in an understandable and useable way. Dr. McKeith uses years of experience and research to beautifuly illustrate how we can improve our health. From symptoms and nutritional solutions, to tongue mapping (love this information!) to food combining for optimal digestive health, to exercise - she leaves no topic untouched and in such a simple clear way. This book is on the top of my gift giving list.

empfehlenswert

Excellent Book!
I bought this book way back when it first came out. Lost it, though, when I moved.I was very happy to see that I could still get it. There is SO MUCH USEFUL INFORMATION in it that if you are not sure what is considered healthy, not healthy, etc., you should buy this book.
