Unicorn Beetle evolves with a new, slimmer form factor
I've been using SUPCASE Unicorn Beetle Pro cases for around a decade now. In that time, I've never really been disappointed... until now. The Pro variant for the S23 Ultra has a design flaw that I can't get over: I cannot reliably activate slide up gestures using my thumb - the plastic cover is positioned in a way that my thumb mostly glides over the spot that registers touch in that area.Good thing SUPCASE has a new design since I haven't had the same issue with this case at all! This variant is quite different than what you may be used to while still capturing the general feel of what Unicorn Beetle cases have become. First of all, this case is one solid piece, so no more struggling to pry off the outer body. This alone is a big improvement since I've always been a little scared of breaking something when removing the Pro cases. Unfortunately, you lose the charging port cover, but I don't think this will be too big of a loss. The unified design also means the case is considerably slimmer than the Pro variant. This is a mixed bag, at least with the S23 Ultra. Since it is such a big phone, reducing the bulk added by a case is a plus. However, the added bulk of the Pro does make the phone a bit more comfortable to hold; it is more rounded and has a more uniform silhouette. The new case doesn't feel bad, but the design can get uncomfortable. The outline of the case is not standard as the corners are all a couple millimeters bulkier than the rest of the sides; the design is also angular in contrast to the rounded Pro. Discomfort is especially noticeable when holding in the left hand - the area for the S-Pen has a cutaway in the corner to allow access, but this also makes that area more jagged and sharp. As for the finish, it has an improved overall look and feel. The sides are familiar in texture to the Pro version, but I could do without the angled styling on the sides and carbon fiber detail on the corners - though the angles do provide some extra grip. The back is where the biggest difference can be found, as the plastic there has a much more matte look and feel than the Pro. It's hard to say how this will hold up over time compared to the old style, but as of now I definitely prefer it.Finally, the kickstand feels like they always have. It's great for now, but we'll see how it holds up over time; I fully expect something to break there sooner or later.Oh yeah, what about protection? While I'm not as confident in this case as I am in the Pro when it comes to drop protection, my instincts tell me it would do just fine. There's no getting around that it's not as big as the Pro, but the slimmer, unified design more than makes up for the slight loss of protection, IMO.The edges left and right of the screen, as far as I can perceive, are level with the main screen surface; on top and bottom, the edge is considerably higher. When sitting face down on a table, the screen is about 2-3 millimeters above the tabletop. If falling face down on a flat surface, I feel 95% confident that no screen damage would occur; this is in contrast to my old S9+ where most cases had sides significantly lower than the curved edges - it dropped on my paved drive way and cracked on the edge due to the lack of coverage and uneven nature of the ground. I don't think something similar will happen this time.To conclude, I think this is a good case and an excellent first try at changing things up for SUPCASE. I will be trying other options due to the discomfort in the left corner, but something tells me that the SUPCASE will remain after the others get returned... we will see!

Way better then 4 stars
I dont know why this case is only getting 4ish stars. Its great. The side have textures for grip. Its one piece meaning the front bezel cant break and need replaced. It looks to offer better drop protection then other cases i bought. Notebly samsung brand cases. The kickstand is there. I dont use it much but its there. Did wish it came with or they offered a belt clip. Thats not a big deal though. No functionality of the screen is lost. I.e. edge panels. It offers a decent recess for the cameras for proctection. And it comes in green. My only complaints, the back is a bit smooth, and this makes my phone to big for controller phone holders. Nothing that takes away from the overall rating of this case though. It works and looks good.

Kick Stand
After 2 months of use.1. the kick stands collapse by it selfs 8 times out of 10, when using the phone on portrait2. If you have medium to smaller hands, the opening of the kickstand to put your finger through will be uncomfortable.Besides the kickstand issues, the case is strong and protects the phone well.
