Design Flaw - does not function correctly
UPDATE: nothing has changed from the below. Aleko has no solution for the problem yet they won't give me a refund. They sent a new spool (which is not the problem) and a new front bar (which is bending bc of the problem, so this new one will just bend too since the problem is not, and cannot, be fixed. I'd give zero stats if I could. AVOID ALEKO.This review is for the 16 x 10 awning with the half-cassette covering. This is specific to the half-cassette option, but not the one without the half-cassette (which is a covering for the awning canvas when it is retracted to protect it from the elements). The spool which the awning canvas wraps around when retracted sags in the middle due to lack of support in the middle. This causes the canvas to gather & bunch up as it retracts when closing the awning. This, in turn, creases the canvas as it rolls up and creates tension towards the middle, and this causes the end-frame to bow upwards (bend up) and creates tension on the arms, so the unit cannot be fully closed. I have worked extensively to attempt to resolve this with Aleko customer support, and while they have been responsive, the suggested resolutions to the problem have been ineffective and has taken over two months (so far). According to Aleko "the sagging could be caused by lack of a center support"...but, "since this is a half-cassette model it does not have a center support roller." They instructed me to adjust the pitch of the arms to compensate for it and/or to re-roll the canvas around the spool to tighten it up, but neither of these fixes made any difference (nor did any other suggestions made by Aleko). It is very clear to me (and I have a mechanical engineering background), that something to support the center of the spool would help, but it seems that the half-cassette version does not allow space for the center support that they provide for the non-cassette version. It makes me think that the half-cassette version should not even be offered for sale. Buying two smaller (like 8 foot awnings) with half cassettes would be the work-around for this, since those spools are shorter and would not require center support. I will provide a picture that shows the sagging, if I can. I am in the process of attempting to return it for a refund since the problem cannot be resolved and this product has a clear design flaw. I will update this after I work with Aleko on a refund or at least some money back on my purchase, which I am only willing to accept because it was such an effort to install it and has taken two months of back & forth with Aleko to try to fix it. Quite an investment in my time and effort, which I would hate to go through again, and taking it down and repacking it will be no easy task.

Awning
We live in CO. The sun can be brutal from 7 A.M. to at least 6 P.M.The Small sized spleen goes into the valance, that's not in the directions, we couldn't go back and change it by the time we figured out the problem. It took 4 grown men to mount it to the house, as it's Very Heavy when completed. The end where the cord is attached is very hard to finish assembly, as the pieces don't seem to align properly. It took us about 4 hours to put together. Then about 1½ hours to properly mount. If you're machanically inclined and have patience, this can be a great addition to your patio area. We enjoy the shade and the coolness it offers. We've already had to readjust the pitch, so make sure to close it during ANY wind or strong breezes. The lighting is perfect for us, it has a low and high setting. It is water resistant. The quality seems to be mid range, compared to the "big" companies. It all comes down to price and patience.

Alkeo products
One of the arms on the awning was bent and put on upside down which you could not tell until the awning was installed and you released the spring loaded arms. We paid $450.00 to have it installed so I guess we are out that money as it is not Amazons fault and Aleko has ignored our reaching out to them. Amazon was great in sending us a new one right away but we are not happy with Aleko not responding to us. We feel they should cover the installation cost of the first one as we will have to pay that again plus pay to have the bad one taken one taken down and disposed of. Not buying their product again.

An economical choice if you can manage the complex and time-consuming installation process
We purchased a 20 foot Aleko awning to shade our back patio. Because of its size and complexity it took an installer over 4 hours to assemble the awning and mount it to our home. The installation crew consisted of 3 individuals with ladders, power drills and other tools. Total installation cost was comparable to the purchase price of the awning from Amazon. Anyone considering do-it-yourself installation needs to be able to marshal the same resources in terms of personnel, ladders, tools and basic expertise to be successful. A SINGLE INDIVIDUAL WORKING ALONE WILL NOT BE SUCCESSFUL. The printed instruction manual is extremely terse consisting mostly of a sequence of exploded diagrams. Fortunately there are many YouTube videos taking the viewer step by step through the installation process. Viewing some of these in advance is a must. The biggest challenge is setting limit positions defining the fully extended and fully retracted positions. The printed instructions on the adjustment process are quite hard to interpret. Somewhat clearer instructions are available on a video accessible through a QR code on the back of the remote control. In a pinch, the awning can be extended or retracted using a long hand crank. An average adult can extend or retract the awning manually in less than 4 minutes. One final watch out: The extension and retraction of the awning requires a lot of torque from a modest sized coaxial motor inside the drum holding the awning fabric. This motor runs hot! Repeated cycles of extension and retraction in a short time period may overheat the motor. To protect the motor the awning has a high temperature shutdown feature. The awning will not engage the motor for a 20 minute cool down period. The operator will have to wait for this period to elapse before the motor becomes responsive again.During the installation period I had occasion to call on Aleko technical support people. They were courteous and knowledgeable. Note that technical support is in Washington state so east coast customers need to account for the time difference when calling them.
