Q: How does the on/off switch work with the this. How do you force the fan to turn on when using the toilet (when humidity is below the setting)?

This model is designed to be powered continually. This runs the fan continually but at a low speed that is selected in the box. The switch is connected to the red wires (signal wires). When the switch closes, the fan ramps up to the high speed. this speed is selected in the box either 80 or 100 cfm. To use a humidity sensor, you can install a humidity activated switch to either the constant power (turns low speed fan on instead of constant fan) or to red signal wires ( turns high speed fan on)

Q: What is the difference between this model fv-0810vss1 and fv-0510vs1? specifications appear to be the same - is one a newer model?

The 510vs1 has three airflow settings - 50-80-100 CFM compared to the 810vss1 with only two settings - 80 or 100 CFM. The 810vss1 on the other hand has Multi-Speed Control where the 510vs1 does not; from the sell sheet: Multi-Speed for ASHRAE 62.2 Compliance allows you to select the proper CFM settings to satisfy ASHRAE 62.2 continuous ventilation requirements. The fan runs continuously at a preset lower level (0, 30-70, in 10 CFM increments), then elevates to a maximum level of operation (80 or 100 CFM) when the wall switch is turned on.

Q: Someone mentioned this being on an 8 second delay. is that true? i am considering putting this in an airbnb and i don't want ppl to think it's broken.

I think all the new dc motor fans have a startup lag. It's so quiet it's hard to tell its on anyway. I've installed over 20 and never had a complaint (I'm a contractor)

Q: Are there any compatible timer switches for this fan? The one we have causes the fan to run in boost mode constantly.
